Well, these are things that I am excited about. Maybe you're looking forward to (or already enjoying) them too.
1. Super 8
(Photo from: http://www.super8-movie.com)
I honestly have no clue what this movie is about. All I know is that J.J. Abrams (Executive Producer of Lost) is involved and Coach Taylor (aka: Kyle Chandler) is in it. But I've heard a lot of buzz about it so I am seeing it tonight.
2. This show (and the other dates TBA)
Seriously, I could not think of anything more perfect. This whole year I have been obsessed with Superchunk (listen to "On the Mouth") and have been looking forward to the day I'd get to see them play. And for free? Even more awesome. Keith Morris' new band OFF! is opening, along with Lemuria, who I've never listened to but have heard good things about. Can't wait!
3. True Blood
(Screen capture from the trailer on hbo.com)
This show just reminds me of summer. Watch the season four trailer here. I'm wondering how they can top the madness that took place last season and the one before it. June 26th we'll find out!
4. The Bouncing Souls "For All the Unheard" tour
I get to see one of my favorite bands four nights in a row playing every record they've made at one of my favorite venues? There's nothing better than that. Maybe I'll hang out at the place below before it..
5. The Highline
One of New York City's best places to hang out just expanded. The Highline's second section is now open and doubles the length of the park. Check out images of the new area on their Facebook page here. I'm sure I'll be making some of my own photos of it soon.
6. The Alexander McQueen "Savage Beauty" Exhibit at the MET
(Photo from metmuseum.org)
This exhibition will be up until August 7th and looks amazing. I want to be surprised when I get there so I tried not to look around the MET's site too much. In case you do want to check it out online, you can look here.
7. So You Think You Can Dance
(Photo from fox.com)
My favorite competition reality show is back for another season with a brand new (and exciting) top twenty dancers. Last night's introduction to those twenty dancers went extremely well with memorable pieces choreographed by and Stacy Tucci and Sonya Tayeh, among others. This program celebrates genuine talent and art and I am super stoked for this new season.
8. The Swingin' Utters tour
I love this band. And they're playing with the Have Nots, who put out an amazing record this year. If they're heading to your city you should definitely check them out. Dates are up here.
9. Breaking Bad
The fourth season of AMC's original series Breaking Bad is almost here! I'm the biggest fan of this show--I could go on and on about it but for now I'll just tell you to watch it.
10. Music Festivals
Music Festivals are popping up all over the country this summer, from Bonnaroo in Tennessee (happening right now) to Pitchfork in Chicago. I hope to check out Escape 2 New York and MTK (Music To Know)--both happening in the Hamptons later this summer. There's also Warped Tour which travels and will most likely be passing somewhere by you from June 24th until August 14th.
It feels like forever since the fun, silly Showtime program Weeds has been on. I'm excited to see the crazy antics the Botwins (and Doug) will be getting into this season. I hope it veers away from the seriousness and goes back to the humor it had early on in seasons one and two. And hopefully they bring Dean and Isabelle Hodes back--always liked them! June 27th!
12. The Museum Mile Festival
Live in or near New York City? Next week is the 33rd annual Museum Mile Festival, during which Fifth Avenue (from 82nd to 105th Street) is closed to traffic and filled with art, music, and lots and lots of people. Many museums along the mile will offer free admission from 6-9pm. Get there early though--it gets crowded!
What are you excited for this summer?
